What are the ipod models from 2 years ago?

My grandpa is sending me an ipod from 2 years ago that he has never used. Right now I have the 4g 4th gen pink ipod nano and i wanted to know if the one from 2007/2008 are better. And I would also like to know the features they have ! Thanks.

1st Gen iPod Touch. (dont think this is it)

5th Gen iPod Classic (late 2007) and 6th Gen iPod Classic (early 2008)

1st, 2nd or 3rd Gen iPod Nano. The release them so often its hard to tell which exact one it could be.

2nd Gen iPod Shuffle

I would bet it is a 5th Gen iPod Classic, with a 40GB Hard Drive. Mainly because that was the most popular selling iPod at the time.
